Despite the ideological or political differences everybody agrees to the fact that our police force has undergone radical changes in your tenure as the Home Minister. The progress you have achieved is really commendable. I mentioned this some two years back while welcoming you on an Islamic Conference at Markaz.

I appreciate the friendly approach your ministry has been trying to bring in our police station throughout the state. I was overwhelmed to experience the difference at my local police station (Chevayur) and the City Commissioner's office at Calicut when I approached them for a PCC last year. It was in a sheer contrast to the attitude they had some 5 years back when I had dropped in there on a similar mission. The constable at the door of the Commissioner's office did not even let me see the commissioner and was talking to me in the presence of my wife in a classical Kerala police abusive language. He made me come back more than 4 times and treated me like garbage!! The fourth time one of the clerks (thank God, not in police uniform) downstairs told me to meet the Commissioner outside on his way to the office and talk to him in English. And I met him at the staircase and he instantly advised the office to issue the certificate (One of the many occasions I realized that English has some magical privileges over our first language). The so-called sentry cop was standing by in salute mode. When the commissioner went inside the constable was so angry at me that he started using fowl language… one of the dirtiest faces I ever remember! When I visited the same office last year there was a reception counter with a smiling lady constable who asked me with the unbelievable ‘How can I help you, sir?’ This is wonderful, Mr. Kodiyeri!

However, there is room for a lot of improvement. I know it is not that easy, especially to change the culture of police force overnight. Here in Australia, we have one of the best police force. Australian Federal Police (AFB) is world-class. As a community leader here in Brisbane, I work closely with the Community Liaison Officer of Queensland police and it is amazing to see them liaisoning with the communities. They visit our schools to interact with the students. I have been to most of the Middle East countries, and Asian capitals like Singapore, Bangkok, etc. There is a lot we need to learn from others.

കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി പൊലീസ് സംവിധാനം കൂടുതല്‍ സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളില്‍ നടപ്പാക്കും

തിരുവനന്തപുരം: കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി പൊലീസ് സംവിധാനം 100 സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളിലേക്ക് കൂടി വ്യാപിപ്പിമെന്ന് ആഭ്യന്ത്രര മന്ത്രി കോടിയേരി ബാലകൃഷ്ണന്‍ വാര്‍ത്താ സമ്മേളനത്തില്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. നവംബര്‍ 15 മുതല്‍ 50 പൊലീസ് സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളില്‍ കമ്യുണിറ്റി പൊലീസ് പദ്ധതി ആരംഭിക്കും. ഡിസംബര്‍ ഒന്നിന് മറ്റു 50 സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളിലേക്ക് കൂടി ഇത് വ്യാപിപ്പിക്കും.

കമ്യൂണിറ്റി പൊലീസ് പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കിയ കൊച്ചി സിറ്റി, ആലുവ, പെരിന്തല്‍മണ്ണ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങള്‍ കുറഞ്ഞതായി കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിലവില്‍ 40 പൊലീസ് സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളിലാണ് കമ്യൂണിറ്റി പൊലീസ് സംവിധാനം നടപ്പാക്കിയത്. 76 പൊലീസ് സ്‌റ്റേഷനുകളില്‍ കടലോര ജാഗ്രതാ സമിതി ഉണ്ടാക്കും. കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയില്‍ പാന്‍മസാല, മയക്കുമരുന്ന് സംഘങ്ങള്‍ കുട്ടികളെ ദുരുപയോഗം ചെയ്യുന്നതായുള്ള ിര്‍േട്ടുകള്‍ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇത് തടയുന്നതിന് ജില്ലയില്‍ പ്രത്യേക പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

100 സ്‌കൂളുകളില്‍ സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സ്‌പൊലീസ് കേഡറ്റ് സംവിധാനം നടപ്പാക്കുമെന്നും ഇതിന്റെ സാമ്പത്തിക ബാധ്യത പി.ടി.ഐ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ സ്‌കൂളുകളിലേക്ക് ഇത് വ്യാപിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

The beautiful South Indian state of Karnataka is showcasing what our politicians can offer to a promising nation. The ongoing political crisis in Karnataka is getting worse with Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa sacking two more rebel ministers, who are part of the group of 19 MLAs who are revolting against the BJP’s first government in the South. The BJP and Yeddyurappa have started moves to win them back by offering ministerial posts to as many as eight rebels. The party has also threatened action under the anti-defection law. The ring leader is offered a position (hitherto not existing)of Deputy Chief Minister... that is under anti-defecation law.

It is very interesting to see the Chief Minister Mr.BS Yeddyurappa and his comrades visiting almost all the temples in South India, throwing coconuts in an attempt to continue in POWER!(at the expense of the holy tax payers). Yesterday, they found many weird objects in and around the assembly hall in Bangalore such as rooster heads, eggs, bhasma (a kind of white powder)... all incredients for superb Indian witchcraft and black magic. The police and security officers are investigating the case. They don't use snif-dogs at Bangalore Int'l airport for quarantine but determined to use them to find out the perpitrators of 'Marana' or 'Mantrikam'(black magic).

Governments around the world are amassing weapons of mass distruction, manupulating and influencing international platforms like UN in the best interest of their country and to eleminate the enemies... Why they are wasting time and money? Model the successful politicians in India... they do it with a couple of rooster heads (chopped), eggs (of black chicken), a whole coconut (peeled). Kevin Rudd (the former Australian Prime Minister) could have tried this against his back-stabbers!!

Obama is worried about the new generation of Indians from Bangalore! Now I know why. Because they are mastering 'the coconut secrets'.

കളിക്കാരുടെ ക്ലോസറ്റില്‍ പണിക്കാര് തൂറി, പഞ്ചനക്ഷത്ര കിടക്കയില്‍ പട്ടി കേറി, കാണികള്‍ക്കുള്ള നടപ്പാലം തകര്‍ന്നുവീണു, ഡെങ്കിപ്പനി പരത്താന്‍ കൊതുകുപട, ദശകോടികളുടെ അമുക്കും അഴിമതി പരമ്പരയും, ഭീകരപ്രവര്‍ത്തനഭീഷണി, സര്‍വോപരി മുഹൂര്‍ത്തമെത്തിയിട്ടും തീരാത്ത പണി.
ദേശീയ നാണക്കേടെന്നും പറഞ്ഞ് കുറേ ദിവസമായി സായ്പുമാരും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സായ്പുമാരും ചേര്‍ന്ന് നടത്തിവരുന്ന വിഴുപ്പലക്കലിലെ പ്രധാന അജണ്ടകളാണിവ. പ്രശ്‌നം കോമണ്‍വെല്‍ത്ത് ഗെയിംസ് - 2010. കശ്മീരും വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കവും വിലക്കയറ്റവും പട്ടിണിയുമൊക്കെ ഒറ്റയടിക്ക് മുക്കി, ഒരൊറ്റ ഉത്കണ്ഠയിലേക്ക് ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ ഒതുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു- 'ഗെയിംസ് നടക്കുമോ?' നടന്നാലും ഇല്ലെങ്കിലും നഷ്ടം മാത്രം നീക്കിയിരുപ്പാവുന്ന, ബഹുഭൂരിപക്ഷം ജനങ്ങളെയും ഇങ്ങനെ വിഡ്ഢിവേഷം കെട്ടിക്കുന്ന തുടര്‍ക്കഥക്ക് അടിവരയിടാന്‍ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയും. ഗെയിംസ് നടത്താന്‍ ഒരു അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ഫെഡറേഷനുണ്ട്. അതിന്റെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ഘടകമുണ്ട്. പോരാത്തതിന് കഴിഞ്ഞ നാലു കൊല്ലമായി ദില്ലി ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്റെ സര്‍വസന്നാഹങ്ങളുമുണ്ട്. പണക്കിഴിയും പവറും യഥേഷ്ടമുണ്ട്. എന്നിട്ടും പതിനൊന്നാം മണിക്കൂറില്‍ സാക്ഷാല്‍പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നേരിട്ടെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു, ചുക്കാന്‍. എന്തുകൊണ്ട്?
ബ്രിട്ടീഷ്‌രാജ്ഞിയുടെ പഴയ കോളനി രാജ്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം ചേര്‍ന്ന് നാലാണ്ട് കൂടുമ്പോള്‍ ഘോഷിക്കുന്ന കോമണ്‍വെല്‍ത്ത് പൂരം അഭിശപ്തമായ ഒരു അടിമത്തത്തിന്റെ നാണംകെട്ട വീണ്ടെടുപ്പല്ലേ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ പിന്തിരിപ്പനാകും. 55 ശതമാനം ജനങ്ങള്‍ ദരിദ്രവാസികളായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ജനായത്തരാഷ്ട്രം സൂപ്പര്‍പവര്‍ പൊങ്ങച്ചത്തിനു വേണ്ടി 30,000 കോടി രൂപ തുലക്കുന്നു എന്നുപറഞ്ഞാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ വികസനവിരുദ്ധനാകും. ഗെയിംസ് ആന്‍തം എന്ന പളുങ്കു ലേബലൊട്ടിച്ച് എ.ആര്‍. റഹ്മാനിറക്കിയ ഉഡായ്പിന് 'വാഹ്, വാഹ്' വിളിക്കാത്തപക്ഷം നിങ്ങള്‍ ദേശവിരുദ്ധനാകും. ആ പരുവത്തിലാണ് ഈ കാലത്തിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയശരി.
ഏഴു കൊല്ലം മുമ്പ് പിടിച്ചുവാങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു ഗെയിംസിന്റെ ആതിഥേയത്വം. കാരണം, 'ഇന്ത്യ തിളങ്ങുന്നു.' തിളങ്ങിപ്പോയാല്‍ പിന്നെ സൂപ്പര്‍പവറിന് ചേര്‍ന്ന ധാടിമോടികള്‍ അനിവാര്യം. 1,730 കോടി രൂപയാണ് അന്ന് നാട്ടുകാരുടെ ഖജാനയില്‍നിന്ന് കേന്ദ്രസര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ഈ പത്രാസിനായി നീക്കിവെച്ചത്. ആതിഥേയത്വം കിട്ടാന്‍വേണ്ടി ഹിന്ദി സിനിമക്കാരെ വെച്ചുള്ള 11 മിനിറ്റ് ഡപ്പാന്‍കൂത്തിന് 27 കോടി വേറെ. ആതിഥേയത്വം ഒത്തുകിട്ടിയപ്പോഴേക്ക് ചെലവുകിഴി 2,700 കോടിയിലെത്തി. അതുകണ്ട് അന്നത്തെ കേന്ദ്ര സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സ് മന്ത്രി അറിയാതെ പറഞ്ഞുപോയി, ഈ തുകക്ക് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം കായികകല പരത്താമല്ലോ എന്ന്. രായ്ക്കുരാമാനം ടിയാന് മന്ത്രിക്കസേര പോയത് മിച്ചം- പണി തകൃതിയായി തുടങ്ങി. ഭരണം മാറി ഗാന്ധിയന്മാര്‍ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ചെലവുകിഴി 20,000 കോടിയാക്കി. ഒടുവിലിപ്പോള്‍ ഗെയിംസ് കാലമായതോടെ സംഗതി 30,000 കോടിയായി. തുക കണ്ടുപേടിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കായി ഭരണസംഘം ഒരു നേട്ടപ്പട്ടിക നിരത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. സ്‌പോണ്‍സര്‍ഷിപ് വകയില്‍ 960 കോടി, ടെലിവിഷന്‍ പകര്‍പ്പവകാശം വഴി 270 കോടി, കാണികള്‍ക്കുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് വില്‍പന വഴി 100 കോടി, ലൈസന്‍സ് വഴിക്ക് 50 കോടി എന്നിങ്ങനെ വന്‍ വരുമാനമുണ്ടാകും. ഇതെല്ലാംകൂടി കൂട്ടിയാലും മൊത്തം ചെലവിനത്തിന്റെ അഞ്ച് ശതമാനം കഷ്ടി. ബാക്കി 95 ശതമാനം നാട്ടുകാരുടെ തലയില്‍ ഞൊട്ടും. ഞൊട്ടിയാലെന്താ- നഗരവികസനവും സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സ് വികസനവും ദേശാഭിമാനവും ഉഷാറായിക്കിട്ടില്ലേ എന്നാണ് ചോദ്യം. ആ അവകാശവാദമാണിനി പരിശോധിക്കേണ്ടത്.
ഹൈദരാബാദ് തൊട്ട് കൊല്‍ക്കത്ത വരെ പല നഗരങ്ങളും ഈ ഗെയിംസ് ചോദിച്ചതാണ്, കൊടുത്തില്ല. കാരണം, തലസ്ഥാനനഗരത്തിനാണ് വികസിക്കാനുള്ള ആദ്യാവകാശം. 1982ല്‍ ഏഷ്യാഡ് കളിച്ച് വികസിച്ച വകയിലുള്ള കായികക്കൂരകള്‍ ചിതലരിച്ചും നായ നക്കിയും കിടപ്പുണ്ട്. എന്നിട്ടും? അവിടാണ് ക്യാച്ച്. ദില്ലികളുടെ പിന്നാക്കപ്രദേശങ്ങളൊന്നുമല്ല പുതിയ വികസനത്തിനായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്; മുന്തിയ സമ്പന്നമേഖല തന്നെ. സാധാരണഗതിയില്‍ അവിടെ ഇടിച്ചുകളയാനാകാത്ത പഴയ സമ്പന്ന ഫ്‌ളാറ്റുകളും ചുറ്റുവട്ടത്തെ ചേരികളും ഗെയിംസിന്റെ പേരില്‍ സൂത്രത്തില്‍ കുടിയൊഴിക്കാനായി. നൂറുകണക്കിന് കുടിലുകള്‍ നിസ്സാരമായി ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചു. മന്ത്രി, എം.പി, എന്‍.ആര്‍.ഐ ഫ്‌ളാറ്റുകള്‍ ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചതാണ് കേമം. ഫ്‌ളാറ്റൊന്നിന് രണ്ടര കോടി വെച്ച് ഈ സമ്പന്നര്‍ക്ക് കൊടുത്ത വകയില്‍ 670 കോടി പൊടിച്ചു. റിയല്‍ എസ്‌റ്റേറ്റുകാര്‍ക്കും ദില്ലി ഭരണകൂട സേവകര്‍ക്കും ചാകരയായി. നഗരവാസികളെ കഴിഞ്ഞ അഞ്ച് കൊല്ലമായി പിഴിയുന്നതിന് ഒരു കുറവും വരുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. വണ്ടിക്കൂലികള്‍ 60 ശതമാനം വരെ കൂട്ടി. കറന്റ് ചാര്‍ജ്, വെള്ളക്കരം, വസ്തുക്കരം, ഉല്‍പന്ന വിലകള്‍ പിന്നാലെ. ചുരുക്കത്തില്‍, അടിയന്തരാവസ്ഥയുടെ മറയില്‍ സഞ്ജയ്ഗാന്ധി നഗരസൗന്ദര്യവത്കരണത്തിന് നടത്തിയ ബുള്‍ഡോസിങ് ദേശാഭിമാനത്തിന്റെ മറയില്‍ ഒരു എതിര്‍പ്പിനും പഴുതില്ലാത്തവിധം ഭംഗ്യന്തരേണ നിര്‍വഹിച്ചു. കുടിലൊഴിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ ദില്ലി പൊലീസിനെ പച്ചക്കിറക്കി. ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോയ ചേരിക്കാര്‍ക്ക്, ഫ്‌ളാറ്റ്‌വാഗ്ദാനമുണ്ട്. അതിലുള്ള തട്ടിപ്പ് നോക്കുക. മൊത്തം ചേരിക്കാര്‍ അഞ്ചു ലക്ഷം. കൊടുക്കുന്ന ഫ്‌ളാറ്റ് 40,000. ഈ ദരിദ്രഫ്‌ളാറ്റിന്റെ വില 3.3 ലക്ഷം. അതില്‍ 90,000 രൂപ ചേരിക്കാരന്‍ കെട്ടണം. ദിവസം 20 രൂപ വരുമാനക്കാരന്‍ ഇത് കെട്ടിയെന്നുതന്നെ സങ്കല്‍പിക്കുക. സ്വന്തം കുടിലിലിരുന്നുള്ള പണിയും കച്ചോടവും ശീലിച്ച അവന് ഈ ഫ്‌ളാറ്റിലിരുന്ന് അതു പറ്റില്ല- കാരണം, ഫ്‌ളാറ്റ് നില്‍ക്കുന്നത് സമ്പന്നമേഖലയിലാണ്, അവിടെ ദരിദ്രവാസിപ്പണികളൊന്നും പാടില്ല! ദില്ലിക്ക് ഭംഗി കൂട്ടാന്‍ മൂന്ന് ലക്ഷം മനുഷ്യരെയാണ് യമുനാ തീരത്തുനിന്ന് ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നത്. ഒഴിപ്പിക്കാനാവാത്ത ചേരികള്‍ മതിലു കെട്ടി മറച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഗെയിംസിന് വരുന്ന സായ്പുമാര്‍ ഈ അശ്രീകരണങ്ങളെ കാണാന്‍ പാടില്ലല്ലോ- സൂപ്പര്‍പവറിന് ഗ്ലാനി തട്ടും.
അടുത്തത്, ഈ വികസനയജ്ഞത്തിലെ പണിയിനമാണ്. ഒന്നര ലക്ഷം തൊഴിലാളികള്‍. മിനിമം കൂലിപോലുമില്ലെന്നു തന്നെയല്ല, അവധിയോ രാപ്പകല്‍ ഭേദമോ പണിക്കില്ല. തോന്നുമ്പോള്‍ മാത്രം കൂലി കൊടുക്കും. ദില്ലി വര്‍ക്കേഴ്‌സ് ക്ഷേമ ബോര്‍ഡ് തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ മേല്‍നോട്ടം വഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ് വെപ്പ്. വെറും 18,000 തൊഴിലാളികളെ മാത്രമാണ് ബോര്‍ഡ് രജിസ്റ്റര്‍ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. അവര്‍ക്കുപോലും ഐഡന്റിറ്റി കാര്‍ഡോ താമസസൗകര്യമോ കൊടുത്തിട്ടില്ല. ഇങ്ങനെ 24 മണിക്കൂര്‍, മുള്‍മുനയില്‍നിന്ന് അടിമപ്പണി ചെയ്യുന്നവരിലാരോ ഗത്യന്തരമില്ലാതെ വരേണ്യര്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി സ്ഥാപിച്ച പുത്തന്‍ ക്ലോസറ്റിലൊന്ന് അപ്പിയിട്ടതാണ് ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ അന്തര്‍ദേശീയ പ്രതിസന്ധി! ഈ 'ഹൈജീന്‍' പ്രശ്‌നമുന്നയിച്ചവരോ, അതില്‍ ദേശീയ നാണക്കേട് കണ്ട മാധ്യമ വിശാരദരോ കമാന്ന് മിണ്ടുന്നില്ല, ഗെയിംസിന്റെ പണിക്കിടയില്‍ പലപ്പോഴായി അപകടമരണം വരിച്ച 50 തൊഴിലാളികളുടെ കാര്യം. മനുഷ്യന്റെ സ്വഭാവ രൂപവത്കരണത്തില്‍ സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സിനുള്ള മഹത്തായ പങ്കില്‍ ഉപന്യസിച്ച് നടക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കും ഇതൊരു വിഷയമേയല്ല. ദേശാഭിമാനം വിജൃംഭിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ ദരിദ്രവാസികളുടെ രക്തസാക്ഷിത്തവും അനിവാര്യ ഘടകമായിരിക്കും.
അതെന്തായാലും ഈ ഗെയിംസ് പൂരവും അതിന്റെ അലമ്പുകളും നമുക്കു നേരെ ഒരു കണ്ണാടി പിടിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അടിസ്ഥാനപരമായി ഇവയെല്ലാം ഇന്ത്യന്‍ മധ്യവര്‍ഗത്തിന്റെ സിസോഫ്രീനിയയുടെ ഉല്‍പന്നങ്ങളല്ലേ? ഇന്ത്യ സൂപ്പര്‍പവറാണെന്നും പറഞ്ഞ് ഞെളിയാനും വിശ്വസിപ്പിക്കാനും അവര്‍ക്ക് വരേണ്യരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളെ അനുകരിക്കണം. ദരിദ്രരായ 55 ശതമാനം ജനതതിയെ മറച്ചുവെച്ച് പത്രാസ് കാട്ടണം. അതിന്, അതേ ജനാവലിയെത്തന്നെ കഴുതകളാക്കി പണിയെടുപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മധ്യവര്‍ഗത്തിന്റെ ഈ ദ്വന്ദ്വവ്യക്തിത്വമാണ് ഗെയിംസിന്റെ സംഘാടക സമിതി ഭാരവാഹി ലളിത് ഭാനോട്ടിന്റെ ശുചിത്വ സങ്കല്‍പ വ്യാഖ്യാനത്തിലൂടെ (പലര്‍ക്കും പല ശുചിത്വ മാനദണ്ഡമാണുള്ളതെന്ന വ്യാഖ്യാനം) മലംചീറ്റിയത്. അതിന്റെ ലക്ഷണമൊത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയ പരിഭാഷയാണ് ദില്ലി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ഷീലാ ദീക്ഷിത്തിന്റെ ഗാന്ധിയന്‍ നാവു തൂകിയത്. ഇപ്രകാരം ദേശീയ ഹുങ്കും പൊങ്ങച്ചവും പത്തിനിവര്‍ത്തുകയും അതിന്റെ തണലില്‍ അഴിമതി ഹിമാലയം കയറുകയും ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴും മാന്യശ്രീ വിശ്വാമിത്രന്‍ ചമയുന്ന പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പിന്നെന്തിന് പതിനൊന്നാം മണിക്കൂറില്‍ നേരിട്ടിറങ്ങി? അവിടെയാണ് ഈ പൂരക്കഥ നമ്മുടെയൊരു ദേശീയപ്രകൃതത്തെ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിത്തരുക. പണ്ടുള്ളവര്‍ ചോദിക്കും, അപ്പിയിടാന്‍ നേരത്താണോ ആസനമന്വേഷിക്കുന്നേ? ചോദ്യം അവസാന നിമിഷം മാത്രം പണിതീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ പെടാപ്പാടു പെടുന്നവരോടാണ്. ഇതൊരു ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പ്രകൃതമാണ്. വ്യക്തിപരമായി ചില വ്യത്യാസങ്ങളൊക്കെയുണ്ടാവാമെങ്കിലും പൊതുകാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ ഇതാണ് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ പ്രവണത. അതിലൊരു രാഷ്ട്രീയമുണ്ട്.
കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ മുന്‍കൂട്ടി തീരുമാനിച്ച് അത് നടപ്പാക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ട ആസൂത്രണം കഴിച്ച്, നടപടിക്രമങ്ങള്‍ കമ്പോടുകമ്പ് സൂക്ഷ്മതയോടെ, സമയനിഷ്ഠയോടെ പാലിക്കുന്ന സംസ്‌കാരങ്ങളുണ്ട്. ജപ്പാന്‍ മികച്ച ഉദാഹരണം. ചെറുതുകള്‍ കല്‍പിച്ച്, അച്ചടക്കത്തോടെ നിര്‍വഹിക്കുക. അതവരുടെ ഏകമുഖ സംസ്‌കാരത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രപരമായ ഒസ്യത്താണ്. ചൈനയില്‍ ഒന്നും ചെറുതല്ല, വലിപ്പത്തിലാണ് അവരുടെ കമ്പം. അച്ചടക്കം പക്ഷേ, ജാപ്പനീസ് മുറയില്‍ വന്നതല്ല. കൈയൂക്കും ആയുധബലവുംകൊണ്ട് പോരടിച്ച് കീഴ്‌പ്പെടുത്തിയ ഗോത്രയുദ്ധ പാരമ്പര്യമാണ് അവരുടേത്. ഒടുവില്‍ കമ്യൂണിസവും ആ താവഴിയെ പുല്‍കി. ഇന്നിപ്പോള്‍ വ്യക്തമായ പട്ടാളമുനയില്‍ ആളെ അടിമയാക്കിനിര്‍ത്തി കാര്യം സാധിക്കുന്നു. വരുന്ന നവംബര്‍ ഒന്നിന് തുടങ്ങുന്ന ഏഷ്യാഡിന്റെ കായികഗ്രാമം അവര്‍ സെപ്റ്റംബറില്‍തന്നെ സംഘാടകസമിതിക്ക് കൈമാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഇന്ത്യ ബഹുസാംസ്‌കാരികതയുടെ കൂടാരമാണ്. അമ്മയെ തല്ലിയാലും പലപക്ഷം. ഇവിടെ പ്രവചനങ്ങളും ആസൂത്രണവും പദ്ധതി നടത്തിപ്പും അനുസരണയും ശ്രദ്ധയുമൊക്കെ ആപേക്ഷികം മാത്രം. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വ്യവസ്ഥിതിയും അതുണ്ടാക്കിവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സിസ്റ്റങ്ങളും മനുഷ്യവിഭവത്തെ ഗൗരവത്തിലെടുക്കുന്നില്ല. മറിച്ച്, വ്യക്തിഗതമായ വൈഭവങ്ങള്‍ക്കാണ് മുന്‍തൂക്കം. ശരിയാണ്, ഇന്ത്യക്കാരും കല്‍പിക്കാറുണ്ട് പദ്ധതിയും ആസൂത്രണവുമൊക്കെ. പക്ഷേ, പതിനൊന്നാംമണിക്കേ പണി തുടങ്ങൂ. അതുവരെയുള്ളത്് ഈ അവസാന ധിറുതിപ്പണിക്കുള്ള അരങ്ങൊരുക്കലാണ്. ചങ്ങാതികള്‍, സൂത്രക്കാര്‍, പക്കമേളക്കാര്‍, ഇടനിലക്കാര്‍, ഒപ്പിക്കല്‍ വിരുതര്‍ തൊട്ട് അവസരം മുതലാക്കികളായ തനി കൊള്ളയടിക്കാര്‍ വരെയുള്ളവരുടെ ശൃംഖലയൊരുക്കം. അവസാന മണിക്കൂറിലേ ഈ ശൃംഖല പ്രതിസന്ധി പരിഹാരത്തിന്റെ ചാലില്‍ വരൂ. അതോടെ പിന്നെ, വര്‍ഷങ്ങളോളം നിശ്ചലമായിരുന്നതൊക്കെ പൊടുന്നനെ ചലിതമാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇതൊരു പരമ്പരാഗത ശീലവും വിശ്വാസവുമാണ്. ഫലം: ഒന്നുകില്‍, പൊടുന്നനെയുള്ള സാഫല്യം, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ പൊടുന്നനെയുള്ള പരാജയം. സ്ഥിതപ്രജ്ഞ എന്നൊന്നില്ലാത്തതുപോലെ സാഫല്യത്തിന്റെ നൈരന്തര്യവും ഇന്ത്യക്കാര്‍ക്കില്ല. നമ്മുടെ വിഭാഗീയ സാമൂഹികഘടനകളിലാണ് അതിന്റെ കാരണമിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരുറച്ച, നൈരന്തര്യമുള്ള സ്ഥാപനമുണ്ടാവുക സംഘപ്രവൃത്തിയില്‍നിന്നാണ്- ടീം വര്‍ക്ക്. ടീമുകള്‍ യഥോചിതം പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കണമെങ്കില്‍ അതിലെ അംഗങ്ങള്‍ പങ്കിടുന്ന ലക്ഷ്യവും മാര്‍ഗവുംവേണം. ഈ തത്ത്വമൂല്യങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ നൈരന്തര്യമുള്ള ദേശീയസ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ തുലോം വിരളമാണ്. കാരണം, ആളുകളെയും പ്രക്രിയകളെയും കൂട്ടിവിളക്കിയുള്ള നിരന്തര പ്രയോഗമില്ല. പ്രോജക്ട് അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍പോലും വ്യക്തികളെ ആശ്രയിച്ചുള്ള പോക്കിലാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ അവ ഹ്രസ്വകാല ജയം മാത്രം നേടുന്നു. വ്യക്തിവൈഭവങ്ങളെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന സിസ്റ്റംകൊണ്ട് പ്രയോജനം വ്യക്തികള്‍ക്കാണ്, സമൂഹത്തിനല്ല. കോമണ്‍വെല്‍ത്ത് ഗെയിംസ്- 2010 ചില വ്യക്തികളെയും കമ്പനികളെയും അവരുടെ സില്‍ബന്തികളെയും സമ്പന്നരാക്കും. ഇന്ത്യയെ ദരിദ്രമാക്കി നിര്‍ത്തും. അതാണ് പതിനൊന്നാം മണിക്കൂറിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയം, എവിടെയും എക്കാലവും.

NEW DELHI- Workers painted walls, drained out rain water and removed a snake at the Commonwealth Games Village as India raced on Sunday to address complaints of filth and hygiene a week before the start of the showpiece event.

The Games were supposed to enhance India's image of a rising power, but shoddy construction, filthy accommodation and security fears have underlined governance and accountability issues, hurting the runaway pride of Asia's third largest economy.

Several top athletes, including world champion sprinter Usain Bolt, have pulled out, taking away some of the shine from the event held every four years for former British colonies.

Two more Australian athletes, cyclist Travis Meyer and table tennis player Stephanie Sang, pulled out on Sunday. This comes a day after Britain's number one tennis player Elena Baltacha withdrew because of concerns about disease and hygiene.

On Sunday, Indian organising committee officials met to review the work at the Games Village where masons plastered walls while workers struggled to dry out the basement of the Village which sits on the flooded plains of the Yamuna river.

"All finishing work is going on in full swing," said Dalbir Singh, mayor of the Games Village where the athletes will stay.

"It's a world class facility with some minor issues and work is going on to fix those problems."

Indeed, most of the 34 apartment blocs are gleaming and spacious and fitted with Italian marble. But much of what is good about the facility has been overshadowed by athletes' complaints of filth and unfinished work in some of the living quarters.

SNAKE, TOBACCO SPIT

South Africa's High Commissioner to India Harris Majeke told reporters a snake had been found in the room of an athlete at the Games village.

"That was really a threat to the lives of our athletes," he said, complaining of filth in the living quarters. "When everything is done, then we will ask our teams to come."

The Times Now news channel said about 150 rooms meant for athletes were unliveable. Indian boxer Akhil Kumar was in shock when his bed caved in on Saturday. It was found the mattress had just been placed on the bed frame without any support underneath.

"Labourers have done a very bad job. They had spit 'paan' (chewing tobacco) on the walls, stains of which are almost unremovable," Lalit Bhanot, secretary general of the Games organising committee, told Reuters.

"We are identifying rooms which are dirty and shutting them down. But we have adequate rooms so there is nothing to worry."

The Games are estimated to have cost $6 billion (3 billion pounds). India was awarded them in 2003 but did not begin proper preparations until two years ago. Michael Fennell, chief of Commonwealth Games Federation, has said India's image has taken a beating.

Athletes from 11 countries have arrived so far and contingents from seven more nations, including New Zealand and Canada which had delayed their arrival, are expected on Sunday.

The English team, which had checked into hotels because their accommodation was not ready, began moving some support staff into the Village on Sunday. The athletes will follow on Monday.

"Work is on track. About 66 flats will be handed over by tomorrow (Monday) and everything will be complete by Wednesday," Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters.

India had hoped to use the Games to display its growing global economic and political influence, rivalling neighbour China which put on a spectacular 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Instead, they have become a major embarrassment for the world's largest democracy, where infrastructure projects have progressed slowly and are a drag on economic growth.

Desperate officials on Friday asked the Indian Army to build a temporary bridge to replace the $1.1 million footbridge that collapsed last week. The bridge, providing access to the main Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, should be finished within five days.

The bridge collapse and a suspected militant attack on two foreign visitors threw the Games into crisis. An outbreak of dengue has only compounded worries.

Commonwealth Shame!!!!

What a shame!! A fabulous nation is being asphyxiated by the corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and big corporate bodies. Now it has reached the grass root level... a beautiful top-to-bottom development..... Even the sub-contractors and labourers are competing to bring in shame on a nation.

The first photos have emerged of the accommodation for athletes at the Commonwealth Games in India. One shows a filthy leaking toilet, another a stained and dirty shower and a third a bed with muddy dog paw prints over it.


The pictures, leaked to the BBC by an unnamed member of a national delegation, were the first illustrations of the conditions that so shocked officials who recently arrived at the athletes' village in Delhi.

Angered and frustrated by the inaction of Indian organisers, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), the games international body, and leading countries went public with their complaints on Tuesday.

The photos show the conditions that were described by them "filthy", "uninhabitable" and "seriously compromised".

Other photos, said to have been taken this week, show bathroom sinks full of dust and stained with an unidentifiable reddish-brown liquid, cracked pavements, shattered glass on a balcony, water-logging, stray wiring and rubble.

A number of leading countries have postponed the departure of their athletes, but the first small contingent was scheduled to arrive on Thursday at the village.

The athletes' village, a sprawling complex near Delhi's main river, was slammed by CGF president Michael Fennell on Tuesday, while his deputy, Mike Hooper, detailed a serious of complaints from participating nations.

He described rubble, shower doors put on backwards, blocked toilets and various problems with the electrics.

There was also "excrement in places it shouldn't be", thought to be a result of labourers relieving themselves in the homes, while Scottish officials are reported to have photographed a stray dog defecating on a bed.

Cancel the Games!!! Bring this debacle to a halt now!!! We cannot allow our athletes to live in such squalid conditions, nor subject them to the possibility of contracting dengue fever (and needing to go to an Indian hospital) or be caught in some shoddily built building. On top of that there is a real and constant threat of terrorism!! Warnings, Warnings, Warnings galore!!!


India should not have been picked for such an event. It is a poor country, over populated and of course the sanitation is horrible, not to mention the drinking water. Why on earth it was allowed has left everyone scratching their heads. I will not condemn them I will say shame on those who gave the games to India in the first place. These are the people that should be blamed!!!

6: I can fully understand why the athletes from countries other than India would not want to go there. Just taking into account that a Journalist broke the law by buying a bomb machine and taking it into a secure area and the fact only ½ the buildings are finished, the security is basically non-existent and hygene is definitely non-existent, people bathe in the rivers. A good place to stay away from. And the stench of the place.

Yes I know that it is supposed to be all flash and wonderful to show off their country - but in reality over 1/2 of India's population live WORSE than this for real!!!Finding food to live on in tips, drinking foul water and not even knowing what a flush toilet is. Maybe its time to put money into the lives of these people instead of wasting money on sporting crap that will go to waste.....

There is too much corruption in that country and this is the main reason the preparations have only got to this stage. Then onto security - or lack of it. With all of those radical groups over there just waiting to pounce on anyone foreign. Why on earth would we allow our country's finest athletes to go over there, that is just asking for trouble. I love Indian food but that is about as far as it goes

sam2: First it was Olympics at Athens, then South Africa now the Delhi games, it is typical of the Australian media to highlight and discredit anything that is not Australian. Why is it that only the white Commonwealth countries are kicking up this hue and cry about the facilities. The same thing would have probably happened in China, but because no journalist was allowed near the facility until the games started and not allowed to report anything negative, there was no neagative media
coverage....

Don't Touch It!

Most of the schools run by Christian, Muslim and Hindu sectarian fanatics in Kerala are killing our children than any known terminator bug. This is going to cause (if not already caused) unforeseen catastrophes in our country down the track. These divisive greedy monsters are not supposed to run schools. Instead, these guys will be better off with 'quotation teams'to chop people's heads off. The best service they can render to the state is to shut their schools down.

These fanatic monsters do not respect the sanctity of knowledge, nor do they stand for free and fair education... as preached by the gospels of their religions. If they do, they would:

not make their schools inaccessible for the under-privileged children.
not impose their culture and religion on others.
not deny the freedom of children to live according to their faith.
not deny the opportunities for children to dream and grow.
not discriminate.
not deny girls of their freedom to think and grow.
not increase the fees and donations to satisfy their greedy nature.
not deny the teachers and staff of their legitimate rights.
not underpay the qualified teachers and staff.
not manipulate their accounts and records.
not deny the perent's right to know and react.

In fact, this greediness has resulted in the extinction of our age-old traditional religious instructional institutions like Sunday Catechisms, Madrassas, etc. Christian, Hindu and Muslim communities should impart religious education seperately in the traditional way... and let our schools be schools in every sense.

We appreciate the genuine remarks made by our Cheif Minister in this regard. Mr.Achuthanadan, strip the schools off their approval before they strip off the future of our kids.. and our state. Bishops, moulvies and swamies can keep minting on the ignorance of the people as many of them used to do. Take your hands off education! It is our kids' future.. and a nation's only hope.

Assault on Palestinian Aid Flotilla

Israeli navy commandos stormed a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, which tried to breach an Israeli blockade in international waters in an attempt to deliver aid to the besieged Palestinian territory. Approximately, 19 people died in a clash which occurred when Israeli forces moved in to block the flotilla's passage.

There is no doubt that this is an act of violence and violation of international norms. There is no excuse for this. Such atrocities have been repeatedly committed as a part of the state sponsored terrorism. No country in the modern world should flout international conventions to suit its own needs.

Now ‘the international community’ and their ‘leaders’ are responding very carefully. We have never seen this much care and caution in coining the statements of reaction by the world leaders. Their end notes are same: we should wait until the truth comes out.

Isn’t it double standard, obviously? Can you imagine the outrage if this were Syria, or Saudi, or Iran attacking an Isreali flotilla? See how we all reacted when South Korea claimed their ship was sunk by the North Korean torpedos?

The Plight of Mr. Tharoor

Power corrupts... and absolute power corrupts absolutely... As everywhere else.. or even worse, Indian politics is corrupt to the roots. Support to a leader shouldn't be unconditional... lest he or she gets carried away.

Mr. Tharoor is apparently a prospective leader with unfathomed potential... which the Indians (nay, we Mallus) failed to tap on. We can't complain, coz... what else do you expect from parties which are highjacked by a bunch of crooked power mongers? All Australians need to realize that these opinion polls are nonsense. You elect someone to lead the nation for a term, let them do it with peace of mind and composure - Rome was not built in a day. In fact, the Liberals want to see Mr.Rudd be a more reckless spender desperatly attempting to win the support of the electorate. The prominent members of both ruling and opposing parties are now frantically using the lion's portion of their potential to showcase their fake images... everything at the expense of the nation. It is not a healthy trend at all, mates. It is not good for either for Liberal or for the Labour... It is not good for a promising country like Australia.

While watching the latest news this morning I was struck by repentance made by the British PM Gordon Brown over his gaffe. I feel sorry for the so-called ‘civilized new world’. Are we so gullible to be taken for a ride by these impenitent sinners? They are indeed more sinning than sinned!

I cannot explain what I feel when I see hypocrisy reigning the world. Tiger Wood’s scripted public apology for his infidelity was live telecasted world over. What a wonderful performance by this legendary golfer after days of rehearsal! We are not less than the very fickle mob of Caesarian Rome. We easily fall prey to these carefully orchestrated demagogueries and fake tears.

They apologize and repent only when caught red hand. What else do you think the politicians and celebrities think of us the public????
